Dia del Madre, Boquete Panama
Posted by Lee on December 7, 2009
Tomorrow December 8 is Mothers Day in Panama. Boquete Panama started celebrating yesterday, a Sunday before.
Mothers Day is not a trivial event in Panama. It is an official holiday so many people have the day off from work. It is a day of celebrating life as given from mother to child and although very much a consumer holiday it is also a family day.
At the Good Kitchen of Alto Jaramillo the community celebrated yesterday.

Only woman were allowed seating, every mother there received a meal, drink, gift and a warm thank you from the collective community.
They were also entertained by at least two musical groups, one folk and mariachis from David.

I know these Mariachis came from David because they never stopped commenting on how cold it was on Jaramillo and wore mufflers around their throats.
I left near sundown and things were still going strong. The next big event on Jaramillo is for New Years Day and I am still looking for volunteers who want to cook chili!!
