Cigars in Boquete and David

I have been well behaved on smoking. I quit when I moved here and smoking was defamed by my doctor, he was not the first but he made an impact. I have succumb to the desire for an occasional cigar, my compromise. Not surprisingly you can find Cubanos in Panama, but they are expensive and in my opinion not worth the cost. Following some advice I discovered Habanos Shop across from the National Hotel in David.

In addition to Cuban cigars they have excellent Panamanian Cigars, in my non expert opinion better than the Cuban stock and under $2 a cigar. Thank you Panama for an affordable vice. Dr Pretelt please understand just like Bill Clinton said, I didn’t inhale.

All the cuban cigars in this cigar store are fake. I purchased several different types (cohiba, montecristo, romeo y juliet) all marked with relatively authentic markings on the boxes. I unwrapped them to find a coursely ground powder filler instead of full half leaves of filler as you would in a normal cuban or dominican cigar.
They may appear real but they are definitely not. They taste like $2.00 cigars because that is exactly what they are. They sell these fakes for $10 per cigar. Probably machine made not hand rolled. I spend several months each year in Panama and the only place that sells genuine cigars is the tobacco store in allbrook mall in the capital.
