Review Delicias del Peru – Boquete
Posted by Lee on April 2, 2007
One our first trip to Boquete one of the enticements was the quality and disproportionate number of fine restaurants in this small town. One of the first we enjoyed was Delicias del Peru. For some reason we never had a camera with us any of the many times we have eaten there. This time we took a camera.

After many meals at Delicias we have narrowed our reasons for returning to two things, the wonderful outside eating area.

and their wonderful sopas de mariscos, seafood soups.

Jennifer loves the Sopa de Casa, their name brand seafood soup.

I love their Chupe de Mariscos, nice red chili flavored broth, rice and an egg sharing space with the seafood.
We have tried many other dishes at Delicias but never really enjoyed their flavors or sauces as much as those at the other Peruvian restaurant in town, Machu Picchu.
Rest rooms are well maintained and the restaurant is highly recommended for soups and if you like very mild sauces.

I agree. I think this is the best restaurant in Boquete. At least it is one of two I would drive to Boquete from David to go eat at.
My husband and I were in Boquete from 8/18/ to 8/24. We ate at Delicias del Peru twice. We had our last dinner there the night before we left. It was absolutely perfect. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone! We both had shrimp dishes. Mine was served au gratin with mushrooms and mashed potatoes. My husband had a dish with prawns wrapped in bacon, and served with sea bass and a brandy sauce with mashed potatoes and a crunchy won ton topping. Both were presented on a flaming plate. We were staying at the Panamonte Inn and impressed with their food also, but we will definitely eat at the Delicias del Peru again and wondered why we were the only people in there on a Saturday evening.
Based on these glowing review we had dinner at Delicias del Peru. In general the food was very salty – every dish was salty. If you have any kind of medical issues that require salt restriction I suggest thinking twice about eating here.
The place was dead empty when we arrived – not sure what t make of that. With these good reviews we expected a full house. We started with mixed seafood ceviche, which was good, but so salty that we had a hard time appreciating the other wonderful flavors in the dish. For dinner I had a traditional rice and seafood dish with cilantro – it was amazing!! I loved it and would have it again in a flask. My boyfriend wasn’t to lucky with his choice – he got the Fillet Mignon – medium rare. His visions of a tender juicy steak were crushed when what arrived was a tough piece of meat that had not just been well done, but was over-done and very dry. It was also SWIMMING in salty brown gravy with canned mushrooms. When he asked if there had been a mistake – there was another beef dish that specified mushroom gravy, perhaps there was a mix up with another customer’s order – the interaction turned sour and we felt rushed through our dinner and were shown the door.
The take-home message for me: when eating abroad I’ll stick to the theme of the restaurant. We had a big, juicy steak as soon as we got back to Maryland
Best salad I’ve ever had (other than at my own table). My wife and I both had sea bass—mine was stuffed with shrimp and my wife had Florentine. A bit pricier than Boquete average but well worth it, as we both swooned over our dishes and sampled each other’s plates. The service was also very good.
What a contrast to the day-before experience of a “pizza” at El Rincon on the main drag. Que horrible!
