I recently did a fast trip from Boquete Panama to Penonome. At least one traffic policeman outside of Boca Chica believed too fast, that story will come later after I visit ATTT and resolve the ticket.
Once I crossed over into Veraguas I started seeing literally every billboard along the road had ” Valla Ilegal” paster in it. When I returned home I asked Mr. Google what was happening and found out about the new Lady Bird like highway cleanup effort in Panama.
In the commercials, officers were placing a sign that says ‘illegal fencing’, companies will be sanctioned with fines ranging from 5 thousand to 100 thousand dollars.
The deadline given by the MOP ended April 15.
MOP Minister, Federico Suarez, said the measure will be taken according to the provisions of Law 11 of April 27, 2006, which prohibits the placement of billboards on the road easement.
The Union of Producers of Outdoor Advertising (UPPEX) reported that will remove the billboards, but does not rule out taking action because it ensures that there are hidden interests.

The Super 99′s in Panama City are being forced to comply.
I have all the towns in the road memorized but this kinda sucks for the tourists than wont be able to tell distances to the next town.
The two times when I visited, I realized you cannot trust those signs with cities and distances anyway…some are correct ,some are wrong…you travel towards a town and the signs sometimes tell you you are further away…LOL
“… blockin’ up the scenery, breakin’ my mind …”
They started to put the stickers on the signs here in David along the Interamericana, I got one on mine too. First the municipality gives you a permit to erect the sign, then they charge you $30.00 a month to use it, Now they threaten to fine you if you don’t take it down.
