Machu Picchu – Boquete
Posted by Lee on October 5, 2006
Before we moved to Boquete we, like most people visited. On two of our trips we ate at the Machu Picchu resturante. It is a wonderful Peruvian restaurant which opened just a few months ago. On those past visits we were thrilled by the quality of the food, the service and felt although a little pricey for Panama the meals were still worth the cost.
Jennifer and I tend toward soup for lunch and we each ordered a bowl of different Mariscos sopas (seafood soups)
The verde (green) Aguadido and the heavenly rich red Chupe de Camerones (Shrimp)
and a shared plate of fried Calamari (Calamar).
The food was excellent as always. The cost for lunch exceeded what I would spend in Phoenix, AZ. I also left a tip without studying the bill only to discover that they had already given themselves a tip; this is not unusual in my Panamanian experience and I must train myself to look.
The food is worth the trip but read your bill before you tip.
Oh, the rest rooms at Machu Picchu are very clean.

As long as they persist on including the tip on the bill, I will not go to this restaurant. I personally pay for good service and good food and I judge, not the restaurant.
Don, I agree with you but I keep being taken back by others.
One friend ended up ordering a special and another on menu item for a lunch for two. He discovered to his dismay a $60 bill for lunch. After some heated discussion they would not modify his bill so I doubt he will be back there soon.
This WAS a great place to eat. The food is still wonderful, but the prices are getting out of hand for Panama! Won’t be frequenting there. Agree with you Don….don’t like the tip included. We will decide the tip amount depending on the food and service, IF we go back there!
