Oasis Restaurant Boquete Panama
Posted by Lee on January 21, 2009
Occasionally a restaurant appears in Boquete Panama that causes a stir. When Oasis opened some months ago it was in a temporary location with a simple four item menu. The chef came from the Panamonte Hotel as did the Maitre de, Calisco from the Panamonte bar is the man in charge of the dining room. In addition to being a great dancer he is an excellent and responsive host.
Although I ate at the pre-opening Oasis I decided to wait until the official opening before writing about the restaurant. Last night Heather and I took four guests to the Oasis for a dinner.

This is not a review but a first impression of the Oasis, I have learned to visit a restaurant several times before writing a real review. Our cumulative anticipation was formed by some very positive feedback from other local residents who pronounced the food heavenly, the service excellent and the atmosphere pleasant. With one notable exception our combined diners agreed.
The menu is large and varied and includes a vegetarian selection. The prices for a top end restaurant in Boquete are reasonable. I have included photos of the menu below.
The venue is divided between a bar, empty except for Joe Kim and a rather interesting closed in porch as the main dining area. As Joe suggested they sure could use a fireplace to warm up the environment.

Based on taste, recommendation and a lust for lamb several of us ordered Rack of Lamb, on the menu for a low $12 and beautiful to behold, served in a lovely sauce with fresh vegetables.

Tragically the lovely preparation could not disguise the fact the lamp was of very poor quality and not worth ordering.
Those who ordered Corvina and trout, both local foods did far better and were very impressed with their meals.

In all our impression was positive and we liked the service, the preparation and although not a great atmosphere it was a comfortable place to drink wine and enjoy dinner. Next time I will avoid the lamb and try more mundane foods and look forward to the skillful preparation.
Oasis is located in the Oasis B&B from Bajo Boquete drive across the Feria bridge turn right and it will be about 100 meters down the road on your right side. There is parking available.

I haven’t tried the lamb, but I’ve enjoyed several meals at El Oasis and the food and the service have been among the best I’ve had in Boquete.
Tomaremos en cuenta toadas sus observaciones para visitar el lugar, muchas gracias por ellas¡¡
Must have been an off night, Lee. I had the rack of lamb, medium rare, last week and it was delicious, tender and flavorful. The lamb is local–from a farm owned by Anayansi’s family high on the side of Volcan. I would have it again. And agreed, the trout which my friend had, is divine in an unusual roquefort and caper sauce. Yum!!
Elizabeth, your experience is why we all ordered lamb. Maybe our expectations were too high or maybe it was just a bad rack. The restaurant was wonderful, only the lamb was poor quality.
We visited the original restaurant with a limited menu in front of El Oasis. It was divine.
We returned about 2 weeks ago, and I would have preferred the front restaurant with the limited menu. That place certainly had atmosphere.
Something was missing in the new restaurant, though it is pretty. I ordered the lamb after asking if it was tender, and the waiter assured me it was; well it was very tough, grissly, and fatty. Disappointed, I sent it back; the other 2 diners with me had good food. The evening was spoiled when I re ordered the chicken dish (trying to be on the safe side), and it came after my two friends were finished eating – it was overcooked and not that tasty. It will be awhile before I return.

On Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009, we were all looking forward to having a wonderful buffet at “The Oasis”. Friends of ours from Volcan came to perform from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. There were a group of “gringos” in a back table in the restaurant. As the music played (and good music at that), we heard from the most rude bunch of people that the music was too loud and to turn it down! Strange that you wanted to come to a buffet that had advertised entertainment and then complain about it!! One other elderly woman wanted the music to stop so she could use her cell phone! You know who you people are. Many of you are known in the community as the BCP’s. Not once did you applaud for the performance. You were the rudest bunch of people I have encountered in Boquete. How would you feel if no one applauded after your performance at one of your plays? The cost of $25.00 a person was outrageous for this buffet, but we all attended to support our friends. When asked if we could have our jubliado discount, we were told no. We were told this was a “special” price! The normal price of the buffet is $35.00! Are you kidding me! The food was mediocre to say the least. To top it off, not one of those “gringos” left a tip for the band. What an embarassment you people are. We all support you and your organization. We were proud of Boquete, but see a whole different side now. So to tell anyone that would like to eat at “The Oasis”….the food was “okay”, the service, was “good”…the prices “outrageous”! So if you are thinking about going to “The Oasis”…think twice!!
La verdad es que es un tremendo restaurante
Yo estuve hay y se lo recomiendo
