Fresh fish for Breakfast
Posted by Lee on September 19, 2008
Not exactly bit on this road trip from Boquete to Panama City I found myself meeting a friend at the Fish Market on Balboa Avenue at 7 am. The market at this hour overflowed from the building into the alley behind the market and was as you can see from the photos below a busy place.
One obvious observation is the definition of fresh fish is the same as I discovered in Mexico. Fresh fish is fish that has not been frozen. With exception of some vendors inside the building there was neither refrigeration or ice.
Still the fish were flying out and hopefully will find a frying pan or ice before their eyes glaze over.
Enjoy the scene in the photos below and note the very fat pelicans near the dock.

How do I get to a pier ( David area ) where the fishermen Dock to purchase fresh fish directly from the boats ?
In the Boston area, we could go to the Fishermen / Lobstermen Co-Ops and purchase direct before it went to warehouses and eventually to the stores or fish markets.
