Roxanne’s Grill in Boquete
Posted by Lee on December 9, 2007
A few days ago we wrote a glowing first impression of a new restaurant in Boquete, Rendez-Vous. When we had dinner there on Wednesday night they told us they would be open at noon for lunches and for dinner seven nights a week. The following day Melva said they decided not to open for lunches and would open at five. To my knowledge and reports from eager eaters they have not been open since we ate there. I do hope a positive reaction from us is not the kiss of death. If so we are going to kill another restaurant today.
Roxanne’s Grill is one more opportunity of success in Boquete. On the main road toward David they are well located and easy to find. The menu focuses on grilled meats both domestic and imported with options of chicken and fish. It is a diverse menu and even has an excellent sandwich selection, want a BLT in Boquete Roxanne has it.
Here are a couple of pages from the menu.
We went on opening night and found ourselves in a large group of apparently happy eaters. The restaurant is small about six inside tables and as many outside. The river bubbles right behind it and the sound was calming music to our ears.
Jennifer Jennifer surprised me by ordering Pork Chops, two nice sized loin chops, a baked potato, a salad and some very tasty chutney for $6.50. Jennifer did something else totally atypical she eat both of them.
I decided to try the ribs, again a salad, baked potato extra sauce and the same $6.50.
Only the bones were left on the plate. If I were to a best ribs in Boquete contest they just won. Not full off fat, not quite fall off the bone but not too far off from there. The sauce was tasty not too sweet a little vinegar ting to it.
The owner Roxanne and her husband Roberto were charming. They said they are adding a salad bar soon and will be open from noon to about ten. No problem with the jubilado discount at Roxanne’s.
In all when our children arrive for the holidays Roxannes will be on our eating agenda.

Curious as to whether the Pensionado discount was offered or asked for?
I ate there today for lunch. I ate outside on the terrace by the babbling river and enjoyed the fresh air and the smell of the pork ribs smoking on the hearth.
I orderd the ribs and I have to say – they are the BEST I have ever tasted. I love to cook and consider my pork ribs gexcellent, but I cannot duplicate the fantastic flavour and tenderness of the ribs I had today. I am anxious to try the woodsmoked chicken next!!
Based on your excellent review I visited this restaurant last Saturday night, my mouth salivating at the thought of a real steak or the ribs. After an hour of waiting at a table outside all I got was a menu, despite asking for service from three different people. I will not return, despite living two minutes away. I’m going back to The Rendezvous, where they treat you like family.
Editor: By coincidence we ate at both Rendevous and Roxannes again this week. Our experience at Rendevous was marginal, they had difficulty with a party of eight and the first to be served were done eating before the last were served; the dinner was disappointing.
We ate at Roxannes Sunday night with five people and although the place was packed we received excellent service and superior food. We are likely to frequent Roxanne’s more often. Perhaps the difference was that we ate inside, I am not sure.
I agree with Gary. I ate at Roxanne’s and found it to be very expensive and mediocre.
I ate at Roxannes on January 16th 2008. Everything seemed to be OK, except for the screams i heard comming from the lobby. I noticed a guy having a tough argument with a lady named Roxanne. Meal was great but attention was poor.
we happened to be in boquete by carnival days, and we enjoyed a GREAT dinner in roxane’s. the service was great and the food, excellent. I sure recommend it.
Feb. 3, 2008 Wanted to try this charming looking restaurant almost hanging over the stream. A few of us individual diners were not allowed a table as most were reserved, and it was too chllly to sit outside. I sat at the very tall bar at almost chin height. Smoked chicken and patacones, very nice, the best house wine by the glass I had in Boquete (not much luck with decent single glasses in town), service not bad. But then…I received no vegetables which appeared temptingly on other plates going by. They looked great, local broccoli, cauliflower, green beans and carrots. I asked for a small dish and it was as good as it looked. However, that small salad dish cost $6, as much as my half-chicken. I talked myself out of commenting on this exhorbitant charge and now wish I did. I can get cheaper local veg in the states. What’s up with that Roxanne?
