Best Burger in Boquete, Week one La Casa del Risco, Los Molinos

Posted by Lee on July 9, 2007

The review team this week was made up of four people, intrepid lovers of hamburgers. We selected La Casa del Risco in Los Molinos. On July 4th Jennifer and I arrived too late to try the Del Risco burgers; the were gone, so we needed our opportunity.

Next week, Sunday 6 pm, join us at Fresa Marys on the Volcancito road, rumor has it they make a fine burger.

We arrived at 6 pm and unlike July 4th the restaurant was empty and staff needed to confirm that they were still open.

We were then seated and given a menu. The menu at La Casa del Risco is quite extensive and many people have told us that it is a favorite restaurant. We have eaten there only twice and have not yet written a complete review, that will take a few more visits.

As you can see from the menu page on Hamburgers they are not a low cost item.

The restaurant is lovely, the staff wonderful and management very accomidating. All those elements make for an enhanced dining experience.

Our burgers arrived at about 7pm, with an apology that everything was fresh and cooked to order; still a very long time for hamburgers.

Presentation was lovely, a large, toasted sesame seeded bun, ketchup, Guacamole and a louch of greens on the plate. The choice of fried potatoes or patacones were in separate dishes. The fries were good and the patacones among the best I have tried.
The burger itself was lost in a sea of bun.

It made me think of an old Wendys TV commercial, “Where’s the beef“. Jennifer however made a point, it is not that the hamburger is too small, it was about 4 OZ of beef the correct serving size for beef, but that the bun was too large.

The patty was cooked medium as requested and was served hot, a good thing.
I my opinion the beef used was too lean, most beef in Panama is very lean and tends to dry out quickly. The burger itself was more like a tenderized steak than a moist flavorful burger. You might enjoy that style of preparation, I prefer a moist tender burger.

We were invited into the kitchen and took a photo of the preparation area.

In summary we the bun appeared to be the same buns you can buy at Price Smart, too big for the burger. The patty about 4 oz and a bit dry for my taste, others disagreed. The presentation very nice. Value, too costly for the actual product.

Restrooms were a 6/6 clean, toilet seat, running water, TP, paper towels and soap; no wheel chair access if that is an issue.

We will return Casa del Risco to try some other menu items.

Tammy’s is by far the best burger in the Boquete area. Three choices of cheese, cooked to order, (red for me),olives (try it, you may like it) and toasted bun if requested.
