Road Trips from Boquete – Guaynacanes Hotel Chitre, Herrera

The restaurant at the Guaynacanes is a large facility with both an indoor and ourdoor dinning area. This is a view of the bar in the outdoor area.

They have a large and diverse menu of beef, pork, fish and chicken but with some very nice sauces to add flavor and variety.

For dinner Jennifer selected a salad with hearts of palm, fresh mushrooms (fresh when they were put in the can), olives, lettuce and tomatoes. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh and very flavorful, the other ingredients although canned and did make for a nice enhancement.

For her main course Jennifer ordered langastino (large shrimp) with vegetales.

She was not thrilled with the sauce or the shrimp they were overcooked

I however struck paydirt with and excellent corvina with a sweet and spicey Thai Sauce, very excellent and soon assimilated. The potatoes were requested mashed but small issues like that are easy to overlook.

The cost of the average entree was $8, less the 25% discount so again a great value.

This is the breakfast menu, breakfast was included in our room cost and although I failed to take any pictures it was excellent.

This was off season and the hotel was virtually empty, still the service was excellent and food prepared to order with all menu options we requested available.

The restrooms rated a 5/5, they were clean, had a toilet seat, toliet paper, running water and paper towels.

We will return on our next trip to Chitre.

Road Trips from Boquete – Chitre, Herrera

I intended to post a we are travelling post, but forgot to publish it and now we are back. In the time of our short trip Panama changed it’s tourist Visa so that instead of 90 days it is only 30 days with a renewal to a maximum of 90 days. See Chiriqui Chatter for more on that.

We spent six days on the road and had a wonderful time. Our first stop was the town of Chitre, Herrera.

We arrived in town late in the afternoon and looked for a Hotel. We discovered the Guayacanes hotel.
guayacanes1.jpg
It looked nice, had a Fiesta Casino, a nice pool, tennis court, restaurant and we were shocked that a room for two including breakfast was $67.00 a night. A motel 6 rate before the Jubilado discount of 50% which made our stay at whopping $36.50. If the US Congress followed the lead of Panama and implemented a Jubilado program many seniors in the US would have a life again at little cost to the government.

The hotel consists of several buildings like this surrounding a lake.

we will get to it inside as soon as I can do another post.
