The Brisas of Boquete

I wrote this last year on Feb 2 2012.

“I have been here more than five years, five season of the Summer breezes and I think this year is the worst. That is of course anecdotal and I really cannot tell if my memory of being pushed, pulled and blown around is washed away by the beginning of the rainy season.

If I can read the history Lloyd Cripe logs in Palmira the winds started out this years on Christmas day, they are still blowing. At the Palmira weather station they seem to peak at 24 kph I am convinced they double on Jaramillo. That makes it more than six weeks of wind, please bring back the rain.”

This year the winds started before Christmas and it appears they are winding down, finally. About the same as last year. I am glad I was gone most of January. Some people leave to avoid the rain, I love the rain, save me from the breezes of Boquete.

This missing week

It has been almost a week since I updated anything about my life in Boquete Panama. Not that the week has been quite, I have been preoccupied.

Yesterday I woke to the sound of cattle gathered around my bedroom. I rarely close my gate at night and a small herd of about ten cattle wandered in overnight and enjoyed grazing until the morning. About coffee time their herdsman arrived and eventually nudged the herd up and out of the gate. Now I just have one recurring visitor at my farm a horse belonging to my farm worker.

Last night a I went to a movie about Tango at La Cabana. During my time in Argentina I never had occasion to Tango. Now Boquete has Tango lessons twice a week Monday and Thursday.I will take the opportunity and learn to Tango, preparation for a future trip back to Argentina.

I all a slow week for me in Boquete Panama. I need to get on task next week.

Our Visitors to Boquete

Turing this time of changes in Panama’s immigration process we have been lucky enough to be visited by three of our four children. Unfortunately they all need to return to their busy lives before the 30 days allowed on their Visas.

Ashley, our fourth is still in the States and I want to share these few pictures for her.

Cigars in Boquete and David

I have been well behaved on smoking. I quit when I moved here and smoking was defamed by my doctor, he was not the first but he made an impact. I have succumb to the desire for an occasional cigar, my compromise. Not surprisingly you can find Cubanos in Panama, but they are expensive and in my opinion not worth the cost. Following some advice I discovered Habanos Shop across from the National Hotel in David.

In addition to Cuban cigars they have excellent Panamanian Cigars, in my non expert opinion better than the Cuban stock and under $2 a cigar. Thank you Panama for an affordable vice. Dr Pretelt please understand just like Bill Clinton said, I didn’t inhale.

Boquete Quickie

When Jennifer left on her trip she put some cuttings in a glass near the sink. Now as I am heading to meet her at the airport I discovered this ecological adventure.

The gecko has migrated from the Scotch bottle to the cutting which is in flower. Geckos are a very nice non toxic insect control technique and are very low maintenance pets.

Quickie Comments

Over the past three weeks we had our minds and hands full with holiday visitors. It was wonderful but the blog was a very low priority. Still there are a few things we want add, all without photos and most based on single experiences.

When we do a review we usually visit a restaurant multiple times before we write. When traveling around the country that is not always possible so these are mostly one time observations.

Lung Fung Restaurant in Panama City

Loretta from the Bistro Boquete recommended Lung Fung for Dim Sum. We were in Panama for a Sunday, we lust Dim Sum and Loretta was right on the money. The Dim Sum was wonderful, we suspect we were a little late arriving near noon and the selection was limited but hands down better than anything we ever had in San Francisco.

We will return. Thank you Loretta!

The Decameron Resort at Farrallon Beach.

Our friend Bob Boyd recommended we try the Decameron as a stop between Boquete and Panama. We did and it was simply wonderful, not inexpensive but using a travel agent to book saved some money and our children discovered the beaches, the pool and the food wonderful. Our gourmand daughter discover that she could be a hobbit with 1st and 2nd Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner each followed with a snack.

Thanks Bob!

Napoli Restaurant in Panama City near Via Brasil

We have eaten a Napolis multiple times but never seem to have a camera. It is one of the nicest world class Italian restaurants we have been in. Great Pizza, great clams, great lobster, great steak a great place.

Prices are very reasonable, rest rooms are clean and we will continue to return.

My thanks to our friends Victor and Irina for steering us to Napoli.
