Road trips from Boquete: Coronado, Panama

When we needed to stay in Panama City for a month I discovered Panamacasa, they rent furnished apartments and we took one for a month in October. They were great and helped me out in a real crisis situation.

I decided to rent a house from them at the beach in Coronado while our children were here. It seemed logical a real surf and turf, Beach and Mountains holiday for them.

For about $110 a night we had this lovely house near the beach.

Nicholas discovered reading for pleasure again.

Paige managed to find the beach but tide was high and the seas were a bit rough while we walked to the coast.

But there was beach and water both in the same place something not often found in the desert of Arizona.

The house was great, three bedrooms, baths and this outstanding gazebo on which you could find Jennifer or I lounging about in hammocks.

If you need a place in Panama City, Coronado or even Boquete for a week or a month I do suggest checking out Panamacasa.com . In our opinion having a full service apartment for a week or month is hands down better than staying in a motel or hotel.

Road trips from Boquete: Corowalk Hotel, Coronado, Panama

We have been off line for most of the past few weeks. Three of our four children decided to visit for the holidays and we did some traveling and spent time with them. On our way to Panama City to pick them up at Tucomen Airport we decided to spend a night at Coronado Beach.

Since this was just and overnight stay we rented a room in a road side hotel.

The Corowalk looked nice, it is the El Rey Shopping Center right on the InterAmerican Highway. In fact it is above the entire shopping center and there in is the problem.010708k.jpg
The Deserted desk should have been a hint of things to come. Our room was rented and with the discount was $46, not inexpensive but the lobby looked nice, the room looked like a good Motel 6 room and the location was ideal.

Our surprises started at sundown. As if from a scene from the Alfred Hitchcock movie the “Birds” they descended from the skies landing on every tree, wire and ledge in the El Rey parking lot, right at room level and began a concerto that would have made the deaf Beethoven cry in pain.

As night fell and the voices of the birds calmed the realization that both El Rey and the Pio Pio (Chicken fast food) below were 24 hour establishments set in. The night was a cacophony of horns, car alarms, loud music and shouting in the parking lot.

Finally after a sleepless night it was shower time. I actually did check and there really was a hot water valve in the shower, alas it was just there the fool me; no hot water. Color me spoiled this was not an eco resort nor was it an inexpensive hotel, not even a suicide shower heater.

As we checked out, tired and unbathed our final surprise were the gifts, many gifts, bestowed by the serenading birds of the prior evening. We needed a shower and now so did our car. My advice, if you walk through these doors do it with knowledge of the night to come.
